US vs Canada; 18th Century Slavery and Whitfield’s Alarming Paradox

Strong and Insecure Slavery, the US vs Canada Debate and the Effects of the American Revolution

Slavery was one of the most important factors on the US vs Canada debate and that’s because we always take into account the best approach from the two countries. This time, slavery in Canada wasn’t positive, but it’s still part of the US vs Canada debate, since it rose from the adverse effects of the American Revolution (1765–1783).

It was the number of 70,000 Americans moving from the Thirteen colonies, also referred as ‘Loyalists’, to the Maritime British Colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

In these colonies (an argument of the US vs Canada debate which is already at this point is racism was already an issue and after the movement of African-American Loyalists there, enslavement was intense.

Harvey Amani Whitfield’s book entitled ‘North to Bondage’, takes into account various primary sources that explain slavery in the Maritime colonies, through numbers, documents and events, showing the balance between the colonies of the US vs Canada’s own racist approach.
